Electronics: Sound

All the sound is generated by the Raspberry Pi, unless Akiniscope falls off the wall and smashes. From the Raspberry Pi it goes into a generic USB audio dongle. The sound is then amplified by a Stereo 20W Class D Audio Amplifier. I tried various cheap little amp boards, but they were all a bit noisy or hissy, so I went for something a bit more expensive, and I’m glad I did. I’m only outputting mono, so only the right channel is used.

The amp drives a Visaton FR 9.15 speaker. I wanted an oval speaker, as they give a good bass response, in a limited space. I will probably point the speaker to the rear, rather than forward. Hopefully this will make it sound like the whole of the Akiniscope is making sounds inside, rather than a speaker.
